MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of WCPH 21, I am delighted to invite researchers across the globe to the 2nd World Conference on Public Health 2021 (WCPH 21), which has the theme "Leaving No One Behind: A Fundamental Transformation on Global Action for the Sustainable Development Goals" on November 26-27, 2021 as a Virtual Conference.

In 2015, 193 countries of the United Nations (UN) adopted a global agreement consisting of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and discrimination while ensuring that no one is left behind by the end of the year 2030. The commitment to “leave no one behind” is a core principle and lightning rod issue for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development....Put simply, if the lives of the poorest and most marginalized people are not improved dramatically, the entire set of sustainable development goals will not be achieved. Hence, the intrinsic importance of leaving no one behind in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) is crystal clear.

To achieve a widespread paradigm shift towards development that leaves no one behind, a transformation of deeply rooted systems is necessary. These systems are often based on unequal distributions of financial and decision-making power and include economic, social, political systems, governance structures, and business models. Identifying an entry point to tackle these interlinked systems of power can be critical for focusing action and catalyzing progress, alongside the availability of a monitoring instrument and roadmap for converting equity principle into measurable targets and policy actions

Indeed, the inclusive growth agenda is too broad and ambitious to be achieved by the governments alone and will require close cooperation with the private sector and civil society to be realized. It is vital to empower every individual, especially the people left behind, to be equal and active agents in sustainable development, ensuring their full and meaningful participation in decision-making by providing safe and inclusive mechanisms for civic engagement. Working together and creating new and innovative initiatives can also reinvigorate people's trust and build a new era of inclusive growth that puts people's well-being and the planet at its heart.

WCPH21 welcomes papers that address achieving Sustainable Development Goals 2030 from UN officials, government representatives, civil society leaders, policy-makers, educators, researchers, and practitioners in various academia and industry disciplines. This conference aims to discuss how we can solve our most critical development challenges by working together to achieve the targets set out in the SDGs.

This year's conference includes a wide range of topics of SDGs 17 goals: 1) No poverty; 2) Zero hunger; 3) Good health and well-being; 4) Quality education; 5) Gender equality; 6) Clean water and sanitation; 7) Affordable and clean energy; 8) Decent work and economic growth; 9) Industry, innovation, and infrastructure; 10) Raise your voice against discrimination; 11) Sustainable cities and communities; 12) Responsible production and consumption; 13) Climate action; 14) Life below water; 15) Life on land; 16) Peace, justice, and strong institutions; and 17) Partnerships. We shall have lectures given by eminent keynote speakers and technical sessions focusing on important research topics related to sustainable developmental goals.

I look forward to seeing you, and find the event informative and enjoyable.

eWORKSHOP #1: LinkedIn for Researchers

Transforming output into impact

Did you know that 90% of a decision is made before potential collaborators contact you? Or that ten pieces of content are consumed before someone decides to work with you? Well, according to research that’s the truth! Thus, if you’re not online you’re probably losing to your competitors. Or worse still, no research is included in the relevant policy framework. Thus, you might be finding it hard to:

  • Translate your research into real world applications.
  • Acquire industry funding for your work.
  • Talk to or even find industry collaborators
  • Keep a dialogue going with relevant contacts about your work.

You might even be afraid of having your ideas on display. Or perhaps you’re afraid your work isn’t translatable at all….

In this presentation, Dr Huysmans will go through using LinkedIn to help with research translation. Covering tips on:

  • building your profile,
  • growing your connections,
  • finding collaborators and;
  • sharing your research.

eWORKSHOP #2: SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS

Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis are considered the highest quality of evidence in biomedical research. The systematic review and Meta-analysis workshop is designed to teach participants how to plan, conduct, and communicate the results of a systematic review. Through this workshop comprising of lectures, assignments, demonstrations and hands-on sessions, we aimed to help researchers learn and implement the methodology and techniques used in systematic reviews and meta-analysis. The workshop will cover how to formulate an answerable research question, define inclusion and exclusion criteria, search for the evidence, extract data, assess the risk of bias in clinical trials, and perform a meta-analysis. The workshop is suitable for all healthcare professionals who plan to be a part of a clinical trial or perform a systematic review with specific ideas, professionals who have already have a title registered for Cochrane and non-Cochrane systematic review as well as the healthcare professionals who are keen to understand and interpret health research results and make healthcare better.
